When Laurie Stern, creator of Velvet & Sweet Pea’s gorgeous perfumes, offered to do a giveaway of her newest release Bed of Roses, I accepted emphatically. To have the opportunity to give one of my readers this luxurious rose fragrance makes me really happy, and it will make one of you very happy too!
The following is my review from December’s Best of 2010 post of which Bed of Roses was at the top.
I don’t want to over-analyze this gorgeous fragrance too much, but Bed of Roses is like a study of contrasts. It’s vintage-esque but also modern. It’s powdery, but at the same time fresh and vivid. I give huge kudos to Laurie Stern for her expert hand and for creating such a dynamic and interesting rose perfume. Her skillful blending of aged sandalwood and cognac (vintage) with green mandarin and rose leaf absolute (fresh) allow different facets of rose to be present at the same moment. At its heart, Bed of Roses is a perfume that contains nine different rose distillations, so it’s richer and lusher than any other rose perfume I have experienced. Rose lovers, you will not be disappointed.
If you would like to experience Bed of Roses, please leave a comment to be entered for a 5 ml bottle in a decorative silk and velvet pouch special for Valentine’s Day! Extra entries if you follow Scent Hive on Bloglovin, Twitter, or subscribe to Scent Hive. Please let me know in your comment what you did so you get the entries you deserve! Drawing is now closed.

I have been wanting to try this one! It was recommended to me via Twitter (Lily of Opulence).
I know it’s cliche this time of year, but I’m craving rose scents. I can’t get enough of them. I’m craving powdery, which isn’t new for my usual late winter cravings of iris and amber.
Bed of Roses sounds exquisite and finely crafted.
Velvet & Sweet Pea’s Bed of Roses is on my must try list. Everyone is raving about it. I love that it is so lush and not your typical summer Rose perfume.
This perfume sounds beautiful. I’ve been crazy for rose lately. I’m imagining a green full rose bush from the description. I follow you on facebook and subscribe via email.

I would definitely like to try this. 🙂 Since I discovered I actually love roses, I can’t stop trying new perfumes revolving around them.
I’m both a blog and twitter follower.
An emphatic yes please! I never enter competitions, but this is something I’d really love to try 🙂
I love Rose scents and i am intrigued by the description. Nine different rose distillations definitely would make this a special perfume.

A friend of mine and me are still looking for our perfect rose scent. She’s looking for a powdery rose and I’m looking for a dewy rose. So we are always searching and smelling all the rose scents we find 😀

I remember reading your post on this in December and would love to win a sample of this.Thank you!
My mother, my best friend and soul mate, passed away in Sept 2009 after a very courageous battle of tongue cancer. My mother’s favorite flower and scent was/is roses. Wearing this fragrance will fill me with loving memories of my mother. I own and adore Laurie’s Songbird solid and Gardenia parfum. I know Laurie’s creations are absolutely lovely! So, I am certain that she has captured a wonderful sense of the flower through Bed of Roses.
I am in love with Laurie’s wonderfully crafted perfumes. I wear Songbird and Honey and I would really like to try Bed of Roses. I subscribe to your blog. Thank you.
I am in throws of mad rose love right now, so I’ll play 🙂
Wow, I would looove a bottle of this. Thanks Laurie and Trish for putting this together!

I would love, love to try this scent. I have been searching for the perfect rose scent, to no avail. I hope this is it!
As always, your descriptions are delightful and make me want to try every scent!!
I stumbled across Scent Hive a few weeks ago, and read the Best Perfumes of 2010 entry. I had heard of Velvet & Sweet Pea, but your description of Bed of Roses was enough to get me to order samples of all Velvet & Sweet Pea perfumes. They arrived last week, in subzero weather, and sadly, the Bed of Roses sample had cracked (the package itself smelled wonderful though). But there was a little fluid left in the cap of the sample, and I applied it to my wrist, and that tiny bit was a revelation all day. I love roses, and grow as many as I can in my tiny New England garden, but most rose scents leave my cold. This fragrance was like the softest, most beautiful old rose, on a warm summer day. Just perfect.
Thank you for your post. This sounds like such a lovely perfume. I would love the chance to try it.
I follow your blog on bloglovin, and am subscribed to you as well.
Thank you for sharing your many wonderful thoughts with us.
All the best,
L
Mmm, roses! Rose is one of my favorite floral scents. I subscribe via email, follow you on twitter, and sent a friend request earlier this morning on FB. 🙂
I love Bloglovin, thanks for the introduction! And I just received my samples of Laurie’s perfumes. Bed of Roses is EXQUISITE! I love the layering of rose essences. Extremely nuanced.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Oh my-what a generous giveaway. Sandalwood and roses are a beautiful combination, and cognac is such an interesting twist. And I don’t think I’ve ever smelled rose leaf absolute. Thank you, Velvet and Sweet Pea, for offering this to somebody.
I follow you on twitter, blog lovin, and I subscribe to ScentHive.
I would love to try this! I love the scent of roses, it’s softly sweet and calming. I used to make rose tea for that reason. 🙂

Thank you so much Laurie and Trish for the oppertunity to win this lovely perfume creation. I have been interested in Bed of Roses since I recieved the November newsletter from Laurie. The combination of the the 9 roses, aged sandalwood, tuberose, I am always a sucker for Boronia and the interesting scent of the rarely distilled rose leaf absolute. Thrish, your review spiked my interest even more, with the contrasts in the perfume. It sounds like Laurie has made a new wonder to add to her collection of beautiful perfumes and frostings.
I subscribe to scenthive and bloglovin.

I love roses and I like many of Laurie’s scents, especially her Honey and Jewelry of Heaven, mmmmm. So I’d love to try this one. Please enter me. Alas, I don’t Twitter or Blogovin (whatever that may be), so I don’t get extra entries. But I do while away far too much time reading this blog.
This scent sounds great! Having just experimented with Cognac essence myself at Mandy Aftel’s Workshop at Esalen, I’m in love with it as a way to make other ingredients sing! I’d love to try it, and Happy New Year Trish!

Bed of Roses perfume!………How lavish it would be to smell 9 rose scents and not make a trip to Berkeley’s rose garden. No worries about finding parking, only breathing the magic of combined ROSES. Alas, I don’t tweet, or blog. I only want to enter to win the ‘bed of roses” in a velvet pouch….my goodness!
Having samples a number of Laurie’s perfumes, I KNOW this rose scent will be divine!!

Hi Trish,
Love the inspiration I receive while collecting your pollen and then flying on my merry way with sweet, luscious dreams of landing on an intoxicating “Bed of Roses”. Oh yes, it’s a pleasure just to dream and imagine the smells permeating every cell of my being. Oh, oh yes, serene scents of life surrounding my persona, it’s an honor. All three ways I follow so I won’t lose my way, at least not today.
BTW, the Lemon Patchouli soap made by UrbanEden (sold on Etsy) is the bomb.com
I love Urban Eden! You’ll find some reviews here 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win ‘Bed of Roses’ — I live near Laurie Stern’s house, so my husband and best girlfriend have both dropped by to pick up Christmas and birthday gifts for me. I’m fortunate, I know, so hope my luck holds for this drawing! I have a sample of BoR and it is absolutely sublime: warm and full-bodied and lasts a long time (on me). It is said that rose opens the heart; I cannot think of a better scent for Valentine’s Day.
