Everything about the Laurel Whole Plant Organics line exudes love for nature and total commitment to the nurturing of our skin and selves through the power of flowers and herbs. Laurel WPO’s namesake and owner fully believes in the extraordinary efficacy of whole plants in skincare and is devoted to using only organic and farm sourced ingredients. Laurel goes even further to ensure the ingredients are as unprocessed as possible in order at reap the benefits the raw plants have to offer. The Laurel WPO website goes into great detail regarding the purity of their products, and I highly encourage you to read their “about our ingredients” page to really get a sense of the integrity of this line.
Being a newbie to the Laurel WPO line, I decided to order the Travel Set for Normal/Dry/Mature skin during their holiday sale. Regarding their oils, Laurel states, “Our oils have lots of color and lots of smell,” and this is very true. I have been using Dr. Haushcka products for nearly a decade, so I am used to skincare products that have a strong, herbal scent, and enjoy that aspect of the ritual.
Let’s start with the Facial Cleanser for Normal/Dry skin whose first ingredients are rose, calendula and rose geranium hydrosols. (Love that!) This liquidy cream cleanser has a potent herbal aroma reminiscent of lemon balm and geranium. I would describe its consistency as being close to a cleansing milk, and it does a superb job of cleansing while being utterly gentle. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but for those who do, you might want to cleanse twice.
After cleansing, I immediately spritz my face with the Facial Elixir which smells so lovely. It contains six hydrosols (rose, calendula, rose geranium, helichrysum, frankincense and lemon balm) as well as essential oils of bergamot, rose geranium, rose, sandalwood, palmarosa, and carrot seed which have soothing, healing and tightening properties. For me, it gives my skin additional hydration, relaxes me, and preps my skin for the Facial Serum. To note, the Facial Elixir is my favorite part of the Laurel WPO regimen and it was the first product from the kit that I used up, so I bought the full size.
The Antioxidant Facial Serum is a very close second to the Elixir as it too is highly efficacious and smells wonderful. Rosehip seed oil dominates the scent profile, but like the Elixir, the Serum is teeming with essential oils. Neroli, rose, sandalwood, jasmine, myrrh, and frankincense EOs make this serum a pleasure to apply. The Elixir’s formula is made entirely of 100% whole plant ingredients that are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. My skin responded very well to this serum by feeling more hydrated and supple. I use it sparingly during the day under foundation for a subtle glow and a bit more generously at night for extra hydration.
In addition to the above, a little jar of lip balm and an exfoliant sample are included in the travel set. I like the balm well enough, but it didn’t strike me as extraordinary like the skincare did. As for the exfoliant, it’s simple and gentle, but I’m not sure I would repurchase this as there are others I prefer. These two aside, hopefully you can tell how much I absolutely love the Laurel WPO line and don’t ever want to be without the cleanser, elixir and facial serum in my skincare arsenal!
Laurel WPO organics travel set is available at The Detox Market and Laurelskin.com for $68.
Worth $68? Any noticeable changes?
I do believe the travel set is worth it! The quality is exceptional and the products make my skin feel great. You can get smaller samples via Integrity Botanicals with any purchase if you don’t want to make the commitment though.
