I get a little bit giddy when a package from Providence Perfume Co arrives at my door since it means Charna Ethier has created something new. She’s added gorgeous lotions, hand creams, and perfumed teas to her line, so I’m always wondering with delight, “What could it be?” The surprise this time was her new perfume packaging which is just stunning. She sent along a 5ml roller ball bottle which is both cute and elegant (pictured below) and I am particularly fond of the silver detailing.
Her latest release, Love-In-A-Mist, is worthy of showcasing this lovely new bottle as it too embodies a heady elegance as well as a summery wildflower cuteness. The headiness comes from a lilac accord and I have to confess complete ignorance as to how she approached this endeavor. The listed notes are: love-in-a-mist, mimosa, pink peppercorn, sandalwood, and sweet clover, but there has to be much more going on this complex perfume. I am not able to single out any of the listed notes, not even the sandalwood. Nor do I want to.
For me, Love-In-A-Mist is about surrendering to the dichotomous experience of walking through a lush lilac grove at its peak, when the heavy blossoms are about to drop and decay. These lilacs take you into indolic territory one moment but then the next, you’ll simultaneously feel like you’re lounging in a sunny meadow rich with honeyed wildflowers and pollinating bees as you slip in and out of daydreams. I love that Charna achieved this voluptuous lilac fragrance, without any hint of soapy freshness, while managing to capture an air of playfulness via honeyed floral notes.
Since Love-In-A-Mist is intoxicating and rich, while also maintaining a pulse of lightheartedness, it lends itself to late spring and summer wear. Having said that, I also look forward to seeing how it transforms on the skin in the fall when the air gets crisp. Love-In-A-Mist is complex and deep, and I’m sure it will evolve beautifully throughout the seasons.
Charna Ethier, the creator of Providence Perfume Co, uses only 100% natural essential oils and absolutes for her fragrances which are created by hand, in small batches. I have reviewed her perfumes many times on Scent Hive, but Hindu Honeysuckle and Osmanthus Oolong are a couple of my favorites along with her Beauty Elixir which I have been using in my hair for years.
Love-In-A-Mist $175 for 1.7 oz bottle EDP, $45 for 5ml roller bottle EDP
