If you’ve seen any of my past Boxwalla subscription box reviews (see below), you know I have been consistently impressed with the quality of their beauty offerings and June’s Beauty Box is no exception. If you received one, you discovered some well loved brands in the green beauty community, and if you didn’t, hopefully the above picture will convince you that this is one subscription service not to be missed!
If you frequent green beauty on the internet, you have certainly run across Rachel’s Plan Bee in a blog review or on social media. And for good reason! This small, family owned business makes delicious body care products that envelop your skin in nourishing oils, butters and all natural fragrance. I have spent several months with RPB’s Body Scrub, Bee Cream, Body Butter and Body Oil and am ready to share my thoughts.
As many beautiful ideas often are, Osmia Organics was born out of a challenging time for its founder, Sarah Villafranco. She explains on her website that after her mother passed away she felt the need to scale back her hours as an Emergency Department physician to explore other areas of her life (like soap making) and to spend more time with her family. Encouragement from a friend who was also starting a company, provided additional inspiration to help Sarah take the leap and establish Osmia as her career. Sarah views her new path as an evolution of her medical career as she states, “I am practicing broader medicine now – helping people choose natural and organic skin care products, encouraging them to nourish themselves physically and spiritually, and detoxifying their medicine cabinets all the while.”
It was a sad day leaving Maui after such a gloriously sun soaked vacation there this past December, but on our way to the airport I made a dash into a little gourmet market as we made one last pit stop. There, I found these beautiful handmade soaps on display, and decided to bring their aloha home with me. Rosemary and Sweet Orange Castile Soap with French Gray Salt, and Soothing Lavender with Buttermilk caught my eye and I am so glad I bought them. They are some of the best soaps I have ever used. But before I start in on how wonderful they smell and what a lovely lather they create, I would like to say that they are just so cute! Each bar comes in its own pouch and a card that provides a list of ingredients. (Everything is 100% natural!)
There were so many lovely green beauties to choose from this year, but these seven products rose to the top of my 2015 favorites list. All of them are 100% natural and without parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, or petrochemicals. So let’s get started!
It hasn’t even been that cold here yet, and already my hands are uncomfortably dry. Or I should say, were uncomfortably dry. Thanks to these all natural skin care products, my hands are on the mend.
I have had the good fortune of meeting Persephenie Lea who is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, and I love supporting her small business. She hand-crafts her skincare and fragrances in small batches, and uses only the highest quality ingredients. Some of her perfumes are “mixed media” so not all of them are 100% natural, but her body care is, and include the frequent use of organic botanicals.
I’ve been really impressed lately with Target’s natural beauty offerings, and a few of them are in my frequently used category. Boots makes a couple that I completely adore, the Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm, and the Botanics Organic Hydrating Cream. The former is 97% organic and the later is 81% organic. Both of them have very clean ingredients that are free parabens and phthalates, and are amazingly inexpensive. I have tried many cleansing balms including Eve Lom, Omorovicza, and Diptyque, and the Boots Botanics Cleansing Balm is my favorite. (You can see in the pic below that my jar is almost empty and I’m ready to bust out my new one). The scent is light and grassy, but doesn’t linger, and the olive oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, and sweet almond oil melt easily on the skin and feel soothing as you massage it on your face. A cloth is included, which you run under hot water, and then lay it over your face for a minute, then smooth the balm away. I always notice how soft my skin is after I use this. Olive and Oud‘s dense bars are exquisitely fragrant suds factories that get you clean, leave your skin soft, and fill the air with beautiful aromas. Right now I’ve got Flora in use, and it is one gorgeous smelling soap. It’s woody with cabrueva and peru balsam, and floral with ylang ylang, palma rosa, and mimosa. It’s also lightly piquant from grapefruit and a hint of allspice. Patchouli makes it earthy and binds all of these wonderful scents together which centers the fragrant quality of the soap itself and also has a centering effect on the bather as well.
