Dilettante by Hiram Green

I received my sample of Dilettante this past June (which tells you how behind I am in my blog reviews) and indeed this was supposed to be a summertime post. The three listed notes of orange flower, petitgrain, and essential oil of orange suggest that this fruity floral perfume would sit perfectly in the pocket of a warm summer night, but this Dilettante has more to offer.

Los Feliz Botanicals Reviewed.

Los Feliz is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, not too far from where I went to college, so when the PR gal from Los Feliz Botanicals contacted me, my interest was instantly piqued. When I learned that Krystal Quinn Castro, the creator of LFB, studied with Mandy Aftel, my interest was piqued even more and I knew this was a line I needed to explore.

Sunset Beach and Lost Lagoon by Ayala Moriel.

We were in Italy recently, and this is one of my favorite shots that I took on the trip. It’s from Francavilla al Mare on the Adriatic coastline and it truly embodies the relaxed nature of our time there. We had such an amazing trip, and if you follow me on instagram, you have probably seen the places we visited in this region as well as Siena and Rome. Incredibly beautiful and such delicious food of course!

Flora by Alchemologie Natural Perfume

These feel like tumultuous and uncertain times, so even though the weather is getting warmer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it still feels good to wear a perfume that wraps us up like a comforting blanket. One perfume that provides much needed succor while feeling heartsick, is Flora, a warm and gently spicy fragrance that envelopes you in its pillowy petals.

Night Flight to Venus by Living Libations

After reading The Hermes Hippie’s truly epic review of Living Libations’ tantalizing offerings, there was no way I was going to resist making a haul of my own. I am still in the process of testing several of their products, but it has only taken me a few weeks to fall deeply in love with their utterly swoon-worthy perfume, Night Flight to Venus.

Love-In-A-Mist by Providence Perfume Co

I get a little bit giddy when a package from Providence Perfume Co arrives at my door since it means Charna Ethier has created something new. She’s added gorgeous lotions, hand creams, and perfumed teas to her line, so I’m always wondering with delight, “What could it be?” The surprise this time was her new perfume packaging which is just stunning. She sent along a 5ml roller ball bottle which is both cute and elegant (pictured below) and I am particularly fond of the silver detailing.

Ritual by Age of Earth Collective

It is me, or is palo santo the new oud? I feel like I am seeing it everywhere, and I must say, I like it. And I especially like it in Age of Earth’s all natural perfume offering, Ritual. I discovered this local company at a pop-up hosted by Shop People here in Portland, and was able to test the full line of Age of Earth’s perfumes and incense. Roxanne, the creator of these beautifully scented products, was a pleasure to chat with, and informed me that while her perfumes are very high in natural essences, Ritual is the only one that is 100% all natural. I delved into all of her perfumes with an open mind, but ultimately it was Ritual that pulled me into its tranquil realm.

Satori Perfume Oil by Lina Hanson

Travels to the Far East inspired Lina Hanson to create Satori. Notes of yuzu, ginger, and sandalwood were chosen to evoke the landscape and culture of China, Japan and Thailand. While I have never travelled to these countries, Satori feels as relaxing and restorative as a Japanese Garden. (If you ever come to Portland, you must visit our traditional and gorgeous Japanese Garden). Yuzu is one of my favorite uplifting, citrusy scents so I was anxious to try this immediately after opening the package Lina Hanson sent. Yuzu is a lot like grapefruit essential oil, with a similar sharpness, but also has the vaguely spicy quality of bergamot. I think it was a brilliant choice to pair yuzu with ginger, since ginger too is spicy resulting in a piquant citrus aroma.

Gâteaux by Florescent

Since this blog focuses on natural perfumes, you can imagine that I have a pretty big perfume collection. I have amassed fragrances that I’ve swapped for, been sent, bought, and gifted. I have a lot of perfume (natural and otherwise), and have smelled hundreds and hundreds more. As a result, I am thoroughly impressed with perfumes that are interesting and a little different, while still being beautiful. Gâteaux is one such perfume.

Voyage by Hiram Green

Hiram Green is an all natural perfumer based in the Netherlands whose newest creation, Voyage, harkens back to vintage perfumes while maintaining a modern sensibility. The opening is the most classic part of Voyage’s journey with an almost aldehydic citrusy rush that belies what is to come. The evolution begins quickly and I get a sense of jasmine and sandalwood commingling with spices that might be cardamom and coriander. None of these notes are mentioned as having been used in Voyage, but this strikes me as a floriental perfume with tropical leanings.
